- Fuel cell breath analysers
These work by using chemicals by oxidising the alcohol in the sample, which further generates an electric current. Higher the electric current, higher is the amount of alcohol.
- Spectrophotometer Breath analysers
It identifies the way molecules react with infrared light, and they are quite resistant to false readings. They are expensive equipment and fuel cell ones are considered to be nearly accurate as them.

Different types of tests

The most common test includes a glass tube with yellow crystals and a balloon. One has to blow into the balloon and release it into the tube.
